Architectural Exploration of Space/Augmented Reality Week fourOverview The idea of augmentation came out of experiments conducted by Boeing in the 70s to help mechanics with the repair of complicated machinery. A kind of X-Ray was used and references were projected onto the engine identifying components. The idea was seized by military and developed further. American artist, Myron Krueger, is considered to be one of the first generation virtual reality and augmented reality researchers. The technology of creating an augmented reality has been applied to architecture. Artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer came up with a term of Relational Architecture to talk about the technological actualisation of buildings and public spaces with artificial memory. New technology is being developed and projecting straight onto the retina is on the drawing board.
